Communion and Healing go hand in hand. Paul affirms this truth in 1 Corinthians 11. In his moment of correction and re-teaching concerning the Lord’s Supper, Paul explains that many of the Corinthians were battling sickness because of their failure to recognize the “Body of the Lord” in the Communion meal.
As the center piece of yesterday’s Communion and Healing message, I had intended to share a beautiful testimony of healing through participation in Communion. God was doing such amazing things among us at the end of yesterday’s message, I forgot to share the story as my climactic crescendo. Hallelujah for the Monday Morning Review!
As you continue to meditate on the healing grace of Jesus revealed in the Communion meal, I’d like to encourage you with this testimony Mindy and Lorin heard while on their mission trip in Brazil.
Pastor Carter shared the testimony of his father who had been diagnosed with Leukemia. His father chose not to tell anyone except his wife about his medical condition, and the two of them began to pray for healing. As his health and strength began to deteriorate, Carter’s father continued to quietly press into God for healing.
One Sunday morning, he felt the urging of the Lord to visit a local church where he was not a member. As he enjoyed the service at this very large church, he was surprised when the pastor of the church asked him to help serve Communion.
Pastor Carter’s father stood to help serve and found himself feeling so weak he had to lean against the pews for support as he waited for the Communion trays to pass back and forth across the aisles. As he received Communion himself, he literally felt the healing grace of the Lord rest upon him
When Pastor Carter’s father returned to his doctors for a checkup after this time of sharing and serving Communion, he was declared to be cancer free!
My friends, Communion is an invitation to a grace encounter. Through participation in Communion we recognize the blood of Jesus was shed for the forgiveness of our sins AND we recognize the body of Jesus was wounded for our healing.
May you recognize the glory of the Lord in the breaking of the bread!
